The site altamusica.com asked the same three questions to the main presidential candidates in France in regards to their opinions on classical music.
1. Is music an entertaining art or a component of the general culture?
2. Is classical music elitist?
3. Should a musical career continue to be managed essentially by the state? (The translation for this question might not be exactly accurate.)
In general, their answers aren’t too shabby.
I couldn’t imagine a similar interview occuring much elsewhere in the Western world before an election of this magnitude.
