All The More Reason

This article raised my eyebrows to the hairline. Cardinal Bertone is quoted by the Figaro as saying that to close the door on the Turks « risquerait de favoriser le fondamentalisme islamiste à l’intérieur du pays ». I understand that the idea of Turkey joining the EU is a controversial topic. Often it’s said, as it is above, that encouraging Turkey to join the EU will resist the possibility of the country disintegrating into Islamisation. Isn’t that very possibility enough to discourage its entry? That question is not simply rhetorical.
