All The More Reason

Here’s an interesting story. Michel Polac is a commentator on a French TV show called On n’est pas couché. On Saturday night, he was interviewing an author when he explained at a certain point the reason why there was a tension between the two of them.

It turns out that 7 years earlier she had accused of him of being a pedophile after having read his diary that he had published. Polac was now bringing this story up seven years later because he was outraged by the accusation. You can watch the whole exchange here.

What’s incredible about the story from my perspective, is that, as far as I can tell, she in fact had reason to accuse him of pedophilia. In his journal he describes lying down with his pants down next to a naked young boy and ejaculating almost instantly. I think that his main grievance with her was not in disputing whether the act took place, but that she had labelled it an act of pedophilia. Well, whether it’s officially pedophilic or not doesn’t change the fact that it is, at the very least, questionable behaviour.

There’s a petition here, and protesting his presence on France 2. This blog is writing about it although no newspaper has picked up the story yet. I understand that there’s a French exception to almost everything and a certain tolerance for intellectuals’ eccentricities but maybe he should show a little remorse for this act if he wishes to remain a public figure. I still have a hard time believing the exchange between the two of them on national television considering things. For me, that he went on the offensive as opposed to being apologetic is what is really surprising. That aspect of it I can’t imagine occurring in any other western country.

Hi Jonathan,

My name is Joy, i’m the one who has created the petition, i wanted to thank you for reporting the facts in your blog.

Unfortunatly, no one in France is ready to take the risk to talk about this story and about the petition.

Best regards.
Joy.
