How did this sneak in?

It seems that frequently writers on language take the stance of the long decline: English isn’t what it used to be and it’s becoming more and more simplified. Interestingly, this debate is the same for many languages. I don’t know if the following example is the equivalent to a dandelion growing on a freeway but the word sneak developed the past participle snuck after its inception. Here’s another brief explanation of its development. The only other example that comes to mind is the very powerful “thunk” for “thought” in the phrase “who would’ve thunk it”.
